FORSYTHIA spectabilis. \nThe shrub that heralds the arrival of spring. \nWithout doubt the most colourful, and one of the most popular of all early spring flowering shrubs. \nFlowering on bare twigs in late February and March Forsythia blooms are so plentiful they cover the entire bush. \nMakes for an extremely eye-catching display in early spring. \nVery hardy, even the blooms of Forsythia are frost resistant. \nBeware of birds, they will strip the branches of flower buds and you may need to thread black cotton between the branches as a deterrent. \nExcellent as a specimen plant but you can also use Forsythia as a flowering hedge. \nIf the branches are cut in bud and placed in a vase of water they will open and make a wonderful indoor display. \nAn unfussy plant, Forsythia spectabilis will grow almost anywhere except in a bog. \nFull sun or partial shade it’s immaterial although they tend to flower poorly if planted under trees. \nCut Forsythia branches back to a pair of strong buds immediately after flowering, this encourages stronger flowering the following season. \nAll pictures used are of mature plants in bloom, they are for illustration purposes only and may not reflect the plant at all times of the year. \nOur plants of Forsythia spectabilis are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions. \nView some of the many other shrubs \nPACK 1 PLANT \nIMMEDIATE \n \nThere is a wonderful short by Gardenclips showing how to care of this beautiful spring flowering shrub. \nPlease remember plant maintenance within our nursery is absolutely essential and means we need to prune back some items at certain times of the year to help maintain shape and encourage new growth. \nWe ask all our buyers to remember Forsythia plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons.  Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year.
